I am looking forward to representing Flagler County Democrats as the newly elected State Committeewoman, having been one of the Precinct Leaders in Precinct 29 in 2020. I had the chance to meet and work with some dedicated members of the DEC as well as some awesome volunteers in the Precinct.
I was born and raised in St. Louis and moved to Flagler County 3 years ago with my husband, our rescued Golden Retriever and Chocolate Lab. After our honeymoon in Ponte Vedra/St. Augustine 35 years ago, and annual trips to the beach, we were finally able to realize our dream of living by the ocean. Both of us were happy to leave the cold winters and snow behind us.
My education and professional background include a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s in Counseling. I was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker until my retirement. I spent almost 12 years as a Juvenile Officer before transitioning to my work with child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending family members. During my 24 years in this field, I worked on local, state, and national levels to advocate for and make a difference in the lives of child victims. I served on the Missouri Governor’s Task Force on the Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Children, wrote and developed a National award-winning sexual abuse/assault prevention education program, was a member of the Missouri Network of Child Advocacy Directors, and served on the “Best Practices” committee of the State Chapter of Child Advocacy Centers. As the Executive Director of a Child Advocacy Center, my responsibilities included managing prevention education, forensic interviews, medical and mental health services, and advocacy.
My background has always been focused on making a difference in the lives of others. This is where I see using one of my greatest skills with the DEC; that is to be an advocate for and support others in our democratic beliefs. I feel strongly about supporting diversity & equality for all Americans, reforming our criminal justice system, making sure that affordable quality healthcare is available for all, and supporting immigration reform. I will continue learning how to support and represent the Democratic beliefs.
