The Democratic Women’s Club of Flagler County attended the 3rd Annual PerSisters Rally in Deland, Florida on Saturday, May 4, celebrating Democratic Women’s month.
DWC Groups from around the state came for a weekend of activities. Six members of our local DWC Flagler attended on Saturday. After a kick-off with an all-female color guard from a Volusia County high school, the day was filled with entertainment and speakers. Val Demings, U.S. Representative from Florida’s 10th District got the crowd on their feet and cheering. We also heard from the founder of Rethreaded, a Jacksonville company that provides job training and life skills to victims of human trafficking. The company uses repurposed garments to create beautiful and useful items.
Our own Myra Smith collected delicious homemade cookies from our members, and we provided them for donations, totaling $100, that will go toward buying a tree for the Family Life Center’s shelter home.
The DWC Groups capped the morning activities with a banner march around beautiful Earl Brown Park, before a barbecue lunch. In the afternoon, many took part in a lively drum circle session of drumming and chanting.
We look forward to next year’s event, and hope more of you will join us!
