Friday, March 8, the Democratic Women’s Club of Flagler County, with some help some friends, redesigned and replanted the garden for the Family Life Center at the emergency shelter home. The mission of the Family Life Center is to provide essential support services to individuals and families to end Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence in Flagler County.
The garden was in need of a total renovation, although we were able to use many of the original foundation plants, and hardscape. We received a phenomenal donation of a truckload of Premium Compost from Bunnell Organics, a local company that participates in sustainable agriculture. If you doing some planting here in Flagler County, give them a call. They deliver Premium Compost Soil Activator to residential as well as commercial customers. 386-586-6240
It was a long, hot day, but totally worth the effort. Thanks to DWCFC members: Cassie Moran, Carol Rizzardi, Joan Buback, and Barbara Murphy. Special thanks to Jodie VonGal, who helped us plan the garden based on what was already there. Jodie and Patti O’Neil also helped to install the garden. Special thanks also to DWCF member, Kate Sussman, for donating a beautiful wind chime.
Our next goal is to choose an appropriate tree for the back yard that will create a little more shade, and add to the enjoyment of the space. We expect to start raising money for this project in the near future, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, thanks to Cassie Moran and Carol Rizzardi’s care and attention, and the wonderful compost, the garden has been flourishing! While there a few days ago, we were visited by a ruby-throated hummingbird…twice! We consider this a stamp of approval from Mother Nature.
