On May 5, 2018, five members of our Democratic Women’s Club of Flagler County were proud to join DWC groups from all over the state of Florida for the 2nd Annual statewide PerSisters Rally. Hosted by the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida, the event was held at Earl Brown Park in nearby Deland, Florida.
The day was packed with lively entertainment in the form of music, dance, and speeches. Among the speakers were two of our own 6th District U.S. Congressional candidates: Nancy Soderberg and Stephen Sevigny. Bill and Grace Nelson spoke — and danced — to an enthusiastic crowd. Gwen Graham, one of our gubernatorial candidates, gave a resounding speech, and then joined in the fun as well, as she busted a few moves on and off the stage. It was a dancing-kind-of-day!
We also heard from Judy Mount, vice-chair of the Democratic Party in Florida, R. David Walker, candidate for Agriculture Commissioner, Ryan Torrens, one of the candidates for State Attorney General, among others, many of them women, and many of them first-time candidates, from across the state. Among the most inspiring speakers were Casey Sherman and Christine Yared, student survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school tragedy.
Thankfully, the showers waited until we were safely under-cover enjoying our barbecue lunch. Afterwards, the sun popped out for the remainder of the afternoon, and allowed us proudly partake in the Banner March around the Park, pictured above.
