Three members of the Democratic Women’s Club of Flagler County attended Tally Days this year, on March 11th and 12th in Tallahassee, Florida.
Tally Days is an annual event during which the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida (DWCF) visits the Florida Legislature to advocate for our platform. We lobby (and rally) as a group, and as local club members, with our individual legislators to let them know we’re here and we’re watching what bills they sponsor, and how they vote.
This year we got to speak with Senator Travis Hutson about various bills he is sponsoring. We agree to disagree with much of the proposed legislation, but found some common ground on a few things, and were happy to hear of a potentially positive outcome regarding a grant that we’ve been following. We also spoke with an aide to Representative Renner, and followed up with our positions on certain bills via email.
When we weren’t meeting with our legislators, we joined the other DWCF members from around the state and heard from a great line-up of speakers, including the only Democratic member of the Florida cabinet: Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.
We enjoyed the basket raffle, when baskets from the clubs are raffled off. (We took one home.) We went off on our own to eat in the evening, because Tallahassee, being a college town, has some GREAT places to eat.
We hope you’ll join us next year. More than that, we hope that soon we will be visiting Democratic women as our elected representatives in Tallahassee.
